Save Time and Money

Builders understand that plastic plumbing delivers significant material cost savings compared to copper. But many don’t realize the cost difference that exists between PEX and CPVC. An analysis of material costs by a leading PEX manufacturer for a multi-family project found PEX delivered material savings of 41% compared to copper. But CPVC delivered savings of 102% compared to copper and 69% compared to PEX. And CPVC installs faster than PEX in most residential projects.

Reduce Liability and Callbacks

FlowGuard Gold CPVC is inherently immune to damage from chlorine and other residential water disinfectants and has been proven in American water systems for more than 60 years. That translates into enhanced reliability and fewer callbacks. PEX is subject to chlorine degradation under certain conditions, including water conditions that are becoming more common with changing water treatment practices. These conditions can lead directly to premature failure and water damage to walls, cabinets, and floors. Due to the inherent incompatibility of PEX with chemicals used in U.S. water treatment, PEX manufacturer warranties may be voided as soon as water flows through the pipe.

What Builders Are Saying

“We don’t have control over our water system, but we know that the way water is treated is frequently changing. CPVC is the only plumbing system that has been able to handle these changes.”

Deliver Superior Water Quality

The wrong plumbing materials can have an impact on water quality through leaching, permeation and their biofilm growth potential. FlowGuard Gold CPVC outperforms PEX in all three. PEX has been shown to leach regulated gasoline components like MTBE, ETBE and toluene from the pipe into the water supply. In addition, chemicals such as pesticides that come into contact with PEX can permeate the pipe and enter the water your customers are drinking. Independent 3rd party research has consistently shown that CPVC is “the most inert of the materials ... and had the least impact on water quality.” Read more about how plumbing materials influence water quality.

What Builders Are Saying

“The quality of the copper we were getting seemed to be going down – we felt we were beginning to pay more for less. We had issues with corrosion, degrading water quality, pinholes and pitting. So, we started looking at alternatives... [now] we use FlowGuard Gold CPVC because we think it’s the right thing to do”

Control Your Risk

No plumbing system is free from risk, but with CPVC you have control over those risks. The biggest concern with CPVC is dry fits—basically an installation error. This risk can be minimized through training and use of solvent cements that enable detection with UV light. With PEX pipe, builders have no control over the failure risks presented by the water flowing through the pipes. Even if PEX is installed properly, premature failures can occur due to incompatibility with local water conditions. PEX piping failures have also been identified that appear to result from bending of installed PEX pipe from expansion and contraction or manipulation.

Read more about how bending PEX pipe can increase the risk of early failure.
