FlowGuard Gold CPVC Pipe and Fittings

Features & Benefits

Test Video

Purpose

To demonstrate FlowGuard GoldŽ CPVC pipe cannot sustain a flame and to demonstrate the thermal conductivity of FlowGuard Gold CPVC pipe and fittings as compared to copper.

Video Demonstration

A FlowGuard Gold pipe sample is placed opposite a copper pipe sample. Both pipe samples are stuffed with cotton and placed over an open flame. The flame burns continuously. The heat from the flame is transferred through the copper pipe, making the cotton smolder. The temperature probe measures the temperature of both pieces of pipe.

Results

At the conclusion of this test, the temperature of the FlowGuard Gold CPVC pipe is just above room temperature. The temperature of the copper pipe is well above 500°F. Two important conclusions can be drawn:

  • the FlowGuard Gold pipe does not sustain a flame, and
  • due to the high thermal conductivity of the copper pipe, it can transmit enough heat to the cotton to cause ignition. The low thermal conductivity of the FlowGuard Gold pipe prevents the transmission of heat to the cotton.
